Adapt, extend, renovate, convert

Our passion is working with existing buildings - in their maintenance, adaptation and further development, by renewing, converting, adding storeys or extending. We have many years of experience and methodological expertise in this field.

Every building has its own history, its own spatial and design logic, almost like an inheritance inscribed in it. We are convinced that an intervention can only unfold correctly, if it is developed from a thorough understanding of the substance. We focus our attention on this dependency in the design process to maximise results.

A prerequisite for successful interventions in existing buildings is a precise planning basis. We clarify the building regulations and record the geometry with a laser scan. In addition we assess the building fabric, technology and subsoil by means of site measurements and tests. We analyse the results and in this approach we avoid unwanted surprises later in the planning process.

We use a 3D scanner to create a digital twin of the property, which we import into our CAD system as a point cloud. This scan enables us to plan with certainty and without collisions right from the start - down to the last detail. This method is unbeatably fast and economical, compared to a conventional approach.

The design process also takes place within the three-dimensional model. This allows us to assess spatial relationships and to clarify design ideas precisely at an early stage. It also makes it much easier for our clients to get an idea of what the final result will be.

When choosing our colour and material concept, we rely on breathable, durable and healthy building materials that are produced in a way that conserves resources as much as possible. In most cases, these are traditional materials such as wood, clay, lime and wool for insulation. We also prefer mineral paints - preferably with natural pigments.

Historical buildings are a good example of how carefully selected and spatially effective colour was used in the past - before white became the standard. We are continuing this approach. We work together with colour designer Stéphanie Thioub, and we develop colour concepts that make rooms appear softer or stronger - always in harmony with the location, light and use.

Building with us means not only architecture, but also professional project management. With precise specifications, we create the basis for transparent tender comparisons and fair contracts. We prepare for realisation with carefully structured construction programmes and coordinate all interfaces. We are present on the construction site and manage the contractors in a solutions-oriented manner. Up-to-date construction accounting is the final building block for successful implementation.
